LOFOTTRAL III - Lofoten Islands

Diving the Lofottral III is a proper immersion into Norway’s fishing heritage, even if it wasn't the most dramatic sinking. She went aground near Anda Fyr in ’94, not far from Stamsund, and the crew got out safely. Now, this stern trawler sits upright at 40 metres, making it a dive for those comfortable with deeper profiles and, let’s be honest, colder water. We love the way the Lofottral III has become a home. The wheelhouse is still largely intact, and you can nose around the deck, imagining the work that went on there. The hull is a tapestry of anemones – we’ve seen some seriously chunky white ones, pulsing gently in the slight current. There are always a few cod lurking in the shadows, and we’ve even spotted ling slinking between the winches. Bring a good torch; the light at 40m, even on a sunny day, is muted and adds to the wreck’s quiet dignity. It’s a superb wreck for photographers who appreciate composition and atmosphere over sheer scale.
