MS Hamburg Wreck - Lofoten Islands

The MS Hamburg wreck off the Lofoten Islands is one of those sites that just grabs you. We love it for its sheer, imposing size. Dropping down onto that deck, feeling the cold water bite even through a drysuit, you immediately sense the history. The bridge area is our favourite, with those big, ghostly portholes staring out into the blue. You can fin your way through the holds, imagining the cargo, and often find cod resting in the shadows, unbothered by your lights. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration. The metal structure itself is beautiful, adorned with anemones and the occasional colourful nudibranch, a stark contrast to the grey steel. We'd suggest checking the tides; a slack window makes navigating the interior much more comfortable. Visibility can be a bit variable here, but even on a slightly murkier day, the sheer scale of the Hamburg makes an impression. It’s definitely one for divers comfortable in colder water and with a good handle on buoyancy, ready for a proper wreck dive with atmosphere in spades.
