NANSEN - Lofoten Islands

Nansen is a proper atmospheric dive, a fishing vessel sunk back in 1966. She sits upright and shallow, just 10 metres down, making her really accessible, even for newer divers wanting to try a wreck without all the usual depth worries. We love how her wooden hull has aged, draped in kelp and anemones, feeling more like a natural reef than a shipwreck. You can swim right into the hold, peering through gaps where light filters in, illuminating the resident cod and wrasse darting through the timbers. Our favourite part is how the cold water preserves the details – you can still make out the outline of the wheelhouse and imagine the deckhand’s boots crunching on the deck. It’s a quiet, reflective dive, best done on a calm day when the surface light really penetrates, making the whole wreck glow with a moody green hue.
