NEUENFELS - Lofoten Islands

The Neuenfels, a sizeable steamship, rests at 25 metres in the frigid waters off Narvik. We’ve always been drawn to wrecks with a story, and this one, sunk by gunfire during the 1940 invasion of Norway, certainly delivers. Dropping down, you feel the chill immediately, but the sheer scale of the ship soon dominates. At 143 metres long, there’s a real sense of exploration as you fin along her decks. The superstructure is still largely intact, a skeletal frame now home to cod and wolffish. We love poking around the cargo holds, sometimes spotting lumpsuckers tucked into crevices. This wreck feels like a proper deep dive without the depth, offering a genuine historical connection and an abundance of cold-water marine life for those who appreciate the chill.
