ROMANBY - Lofoten Islands

The *Romanby* is one of those wrecks that tells a story, even if it's a bit of a sad one. Sunk in 1940 when its jetty blew up during the Narvik campaign, this steamship lies upright in about 25 metres. We found the stern section particularly photogenic, with the rudder and propeller still largely intact, despite the passage of time. Visibility can vary here, as with many Lofoten sites, but on a good day, the light filtering down onto the wreck creates a really atmospheric dive. It's a solid choice for wreck enthusiasts looking for a piece of history, and the structure itself attracts some interesting local fish life, making it a good second dive after something more dramatic.
