UTVIK-SENIOR - Lofoten Islands

Utvik-Senior, resting off Senja Island, is a proper northern wreck dive, not for the faint of heart. We're talking cold water, limited visibility sometimes, and a decent depth at 36 metres, but the rewards are there. This fishing vessel went down in '78 after a collision, and she sits upright, mostly intact, giving you a real sense of her working life before the sea claimed her. Descending, the water often has that moody green tint, typical of the Lofoten, but as you approach, the dark silhouette of the trawler emerges. We love poking around the wheelhouse, its windows staring out into the gloom. The stern is particularly good for exploration, with plenty of nooks and crannies now home to decent-sized cod and schools of coalfish that shimmer in your torch beam. Look out for the anemones, white and frilly, clinging to every surface. This is a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the atmosphere of a cold-water site. Bring a good torch and dry gloves, you'll need them.
