Z12 Erich Giese - Lofoten Islands

Diving the Z12 Erich Giese in Lofoten isn't for the faint of heart, but for expert wreck divers, it's an absolute standout. This destroyer, resting at 51 metres, is remarkably intact. We love how she just looms out of the green Norwegian water, a stark reminder of a different era. You'll descend onto a deck still littered with what looks like deck guns, and the superstructure offers some fascinating penetration points for those properly trained and equipped. The lack of heavy current here, most days anyway, means you can really take your time exploring the bridge area and the collapsed mast, though we always recommend bringing a reel. While the Giese isn't swarming with tropical colours, the way the anemones and the occasional cod have colonised the metal is hauntingly beautiful. It's a deep, dark, cold dive, but for the sheer scale and historical weight, it’s easily one of our favourite deep wrecks in Europe. Just remember your drysuit and plenty of gas.
