CHIQUI - Costa Brava

The Chiqui is one of those Mediterranean wrecks we genuinely love, a proper time capsule dropped onto the seabed. This isn't some broken-up pile of metal; it's a 45-meter motor vessel largely intact, sitting upright at 21 meters. The hold is still open, inviting you in for a peek, and the wheelhouse has a surprising amount of detail remaining. We often find ourselves just hovering, imagining its last moments. What makes the Chiqui special is the way marine life has embraced it. Schools of barracuda patrol the mast, and you'll find conger eels peering out from almost every nook and cranny. The deck is carpeted in colourful nudibranchs, and we always spot a few scorpionfish camouflaged against the rust. It’s an easy dive, perfect for advanced open water divers looking to explore a proper wreck without deep decompression penalties. For us, the best time to visit is late morning when the sun hits the deck just right, illuminating the structure. Just watch out for occasional fishing lines, they can be a nuisance.
