PAQUITA - Costa Brava

Paquita is not a dive to write home about if you’re chasing big pelagics or technicolour reefs. What it offers, though, is a genuinely atmospheric wreck dive, especially for those new to the genre. We love it for its accessibility and the way the Mediterranean light filters through the structure. At just 10 metres, it’s a brilliant site for extending bottom time, allowing a leisurely exploration of the fishing vessel. The wreck itself, while not huge, has a real character. You can poke around the remains of the wheelhouse and the hull, which is now well-colonised by sponges and a surprising amount of invertebrate life. Look closely and you’ll spot nudibranchs, small crabs scuttling in crevices, and often schools of damselfish flitting in and out of the shadows. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, one where you can really focus on buoyancy control and observation without feeling rushed. We’d suggest going in the morning; the visibility tends to be best then, and the light play on the wreck is far more dramatic. It’s a site that rewards a slow, mindful dive.
