HANNA MARJUT - Baltic Coast

The Hanna Marjut is one of those Baltic wrecks that just gets under your skin. We love it because it’s not just a pile of twisted metal; you can really sense the story here. She went down in a storm in October 1985, taking three lives with her, and that history feels present as you descend through the green-blue Baltic gloom. At 35 metres, she’s a proper dive, certainly not one for your first wreck experience. The hull lies largely intact, listing slightly to port, with the wheelhouse still recognisable, though time and current have taken their toll. What we really enjoy is exploring the cargo holds; they’re wide open, inviting you to drop in and see the light shafts playing through the debris. Visibility can swing a bit, but on a good day, the low light filtering down creates a wonderfully eerie atmosphere, almost monochromatic. Keep an eye out for the resident cod and blennies that have made the hold their home – they’re quite curious. Our pick for this dive is definitely a good drysuit, the water is always brisk, and a powerful torch will unlock all the details. We’d also suggest going with a local guide; they know the wreck’s nuances and currents like the back of their hand.
