NIEMAN - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Nieman is a standout for wreck enthusiasts, a proper deep dive with a story. We love how quickly she went down in 1932, a collision with the Lawhill, taking just seven minutes to sink. That sudden end left her remarkably intact, settled upright on the seabed at 29 metres. Descending, you’ll start to pick out her grand scale, 99 metres of superstructure emerging from the gloom. Our favourite part is the bow, surprisingly well-preserved, and the midship section where you can clearly make out the cargo holds. Penetration is risky given her age and the classification as a dangerous wreck, but there’s plenty to explore from the outside. Look for lobsters tucked into every crevice, and big schools of cod often hang around the masts, their dark shapes blending into the shadows. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, the light plays beautifully off the encrusted metal. We’d suggest a double tank setup and solid deep-diving experience to really appreciate Nieman’s somber beauty. She’s a moody, impressive dive, certainly not for the faint of heart, but incredibly rewarding.
