CASTLE CRAG - Cornwall & Devon

Castle Crag is a wreck we always recommend for newer divers, or anyone who just wants a relaxed potter around a piece of history. This steamship went down in 1883, and honestly, the wreck site feels like a time capsule. You’re only ever in about six metres of water, so bottom time isn’t an issue. We love drifting over the hull plates, running our hands along the cold, textured iron. What makes it special for us is the way the marine life has completely integrated with the structure. The boilers are still pretty intact, and they’re covered in dead man's fingers, orange and purple, swaying gently. Look closely among the wreckage and you’ll often spot dogfish tucked into crevices, their eyes blinking slowly. You’ll also find plenty of spider crabs clambering over the plates, their shells camouflaged with bits of seaweed. It's a genuinely calm, approachable dive where you can really take your time and soak it all in. If you’re looking for a gentle introduction to wreck diving, or just a peaceful afternoon under the waves, Castle Crag is a solid pick.
