COLORADO (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Colorado, or what we strongly suspect is the Colorado, lies deep off the Cornish coast. We’re talking 60 metres, so this is very much for the technical crowd. Dropping onto her, you immediately feel the scale of this enormous steamship. She's a true beast, 129 metres long, and lies mostly intact, though time and trawlers have taken their toll in places. We love the sheer size of the boilers and engine room, still impressive, even after more than a century on the seabed. There's an incredible sense of history here, the ship built in 1914, sunk just three years later by a torpedo from UB-31. It’s a proper expedition dive, often with a decent current pushing through, so good planning and an experienced team are essential. On a clear day, with sunlight penetrating the gloom, the wreck feels almost alive, teeming with shoals of bib and pollack darting in and out of the structure. It’s a dark, cold, but utterly compelling dive, a real journey into the past.
