GREGYNOG - Cornwall & Devon

The *Gregynog* is one of our favourite deep wrecks off the Cornish coast. Dropping onto her decks at 35 metres, you immediately feel the scale of this steamship, sunk back in 1918. The twin boilers are still prominent, huge cylinders encrusted with dead man's fingers, and the triple expansion engine stands proud, a real playground for advanced divers. We love exploring the bow section, often finding conger eels peering from dark holes, their thick bodies barely fitting. Look for the scattered plates and twisted metal where the cargo holds would have been. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as is common in British waters, but when it’s good, the light penetrating to this depth makes the entire wreck glow a ghostly blue. She’s a dark dive, a proper deep wreck, so good lights are essential, and we’d suggest waiting for a neap tide for the most comfortable dive. This is a dive for experienced wreck heads, perfect for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a chill.
