l’arche - Loyalty Islands

Neptune's Rhapsody is one of our favourites in the Somosomo Strait, especially if you hit it on the incoming tide. That rush of water brings the soft corals to life, like a synchronized dance. We start on the main pinnacle, dropping to about 18 metres, and it's here you'll find that cool tunnel, complete with windows looking out into the blue. Sunlight shafts through, illuminating the enormous soft coral trees and sea fans inside. What really makes this spot sing for us is the sheer density of those yellow soft corals and whip corals covering every surface. It’s a riot of colour. Look closely amongst them for ornate ghost pipefish, we’ve spotted them here a few times. You'll also see plenty of damsels and anthias darting between the branches, and often a few blacktip or whitetip reef sharks cruising the edges. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, too – the slower you go, the more you’ll find. It’s a site that rewards a relaxed pace, letting you soak in the detail and the vibrant energy of the reef.
