AUGUSTA - North Sea Coast

The Augusta, an old yacht from the 1970s, sits in a surprisingly shallow 6 metres of water off the North Sea Coast, making it one of our favourite easy wreck dives in Denmark. We love that you can spend a full hour just exploring the remains of the fibreglass hull, which is now completely encrusted with mussels and anemones. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, with a bit of sunlight filtering down, the sight of the intact bow looming out of the green gloom is genuinely atmospheric. You’ll often find juvenile cod tucked into the nooks and crannies, and we’ve spotted plenty of crabs scuttling over the decking. It’s a site that really suits new wreck divers or photographers wanting to spend time framing shots without the pressure of depth or currents. Our top tip: dive it at high tide for the best visibility, and keep an eye out for flatfish camouflaged on the sand right beside the wreck. It’s a straightforward dive, but the Augusta still offers a good sense of history and marine colonisation.

Wreck History - AUGUSTA

Vessel Type
yacht
Cause
unknown

Little is known about the history of the yacht Augusta or the circumstances of its sinking. What remains is a mysterious site off the North Sea coast of Denmark, resting in just 6 meters of water. Its extreme shallow depth makes it a highly accessible dive for all certification levels, from beginners making their first wreck dive to experienced photographers looking for a long, sunlit dive. Despite its accessibility, the site is classified as a 'Dangerous wreck,' suggesting it is heavily broken up, with potential hazards like sharp metal and snags. This combination of ease and challenge makes the Augusta an intriguing exploration for any diver in the area.
