Bjarkesgrund - North Sea Coast

Startle Reefs, for us, is a masterclass in subtlety. You won't find the massive pelagics here that some of the outer walls boast. Instead, we love it for its intricate coral formations. Think delicate fluorescence grass coral glowing under your torch, interspersed with towering staghorn and robust hump corals. It’s a site for slowing down, for getting up close with the smaller residents. Look for the black sea cucumbers inching along the sandy patches and the flashes of pinkfish darting between the branches. We’d suggest a late morning dive, after the sun has warmed the water but before any afternoon chop picks up. It’s not a deep site, making it perfect for longer bottom times and really soaking it all in. Divers who appreciate macro life and aren't chasing big fish thrills will find themselves completely at home here.
