C.A. VIGMAN - North Sea Coast

The C.A. Vigman isn't a deep dive, not even close, but it’s an absolute standout for something different. This schooner, a genuine piece of history, sits in just two metres of water, sometimes even less depending on the tide. We love it because it’s a living museum, accessible to pretty much anyone. You’ll be finning over timbers that still hold their shape, feeling the gentle tug of the North Sea currents around you. What you'll see here is the skeletal remains of a wooden ship, beautifully broken down but still recognisable. Schools of juvenile coalfish often hang in the dappled light, darting between ribs, while crabs scuttle in the sand below the hull. It’s perfect for snorkelers, freedivers, or divers looking for a really long, relaxed exploration. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, otherwise, the sand gets kicked up pretty easily. Keep an eye out for the odd flatfish camouflaged against the seabed. It's a reminder that even shallow wrecks have a story to tell and a new ecosystem thriving within them.

Wreck History - C.A. VIGMAN

Year Sunk
1913
Vessel Type
cargo ship
Cause
storm
Tonnage
199 GRT

The C.A. Vigman was a Danish two-masted schooner that met its end in a violent North Sea storm in December 1913. While on a voyage from Scotland to Denmark with a cargo of coal, the vessel was driven ashore and wrecked near the treacherous coast of Thyborøn. The shallow depth of just 2 meters marks the final resting place of this historic vessel. Today, the wreck is heavily broken up by a century of storms and surf. While not a destination dive site, its remains serve as a stark reminder of the perils faced by sailors in the age of sail and is considered a hazard to local navigation.
