CASTOR - North Sea Coast

The Castor is one of those wrecks that just feels… solid. Lying in a consistent 12 metres, it's a calm dive, often with surprisingly good visibility for the North Sea. We’ve always found it a great spot for an easy afternoon, especially if the wind has died down. The fishing vessel went down in 1899, a collision with another German trawler, and over a century on, it’s a proper artificial reef. What you'll find here is a robust frame, well-colonised by life. The metalwork is draped in dead man's fingers and colourful anemones, providing plenty of nooks for small fish. Cod and pollack often hold station around the upright sections, and we’ve even spotted the occasional lobster tucked away beneath plates of steel. It’s a great introduction to wreck diving for those comfortable with the depth, offering enough structure to explore without being overly complex. We love picking through the debris field around the main hull; you never know what the sand might have uncovered after a good storm.
