CHARLOTTE - North Sea Coast

When we talk North Sea wreck diving, it’s easy to picture deep, dark, and challenging. Charlotte breaks that mould a bit, sitting comfortably in just 11 metres. It’s a genuinely great dive for those looking to experience a proper wreck without the pressure of extreme depth or current, though we’d always suggest checking conditions before you go. Sunk in 1950 after an unfortunate encounter with another wreck, Stad Dordrecht, Charlotte is now a beautiful, albeit slightly scattered, artificial reef. We love how the hull has opened up over time; you can poke your head into crevices where plates have buckled, and it’s always fun to imagine the chaos of its sinking. The real draw here, for us, is the way the light filters down, illuminating the wreck’s skeletal remains. You’ll find flatfish tucked into the sand nearby and often schools of juvenile cod darting through the superstructure. It’s not a site for big pelagics, but for an intimate, historical wreck dive where you can take your time exploring the details, Charlotte is our pick. We’d recommend aiming for a calm day and a slack tide to really appreciate its quiet atmosphere.
