CONNIE - North Sea Coast

The Connie, a motor vessel, sits upright at 33 metres, and she’s a proper dive for those who appreciate history with a good dose of atmosphere. Dropping down, the visibility can be a bit of a lottery, typical for the North Sea, but on a good day, the ship materialises out of the green, imposing. We love how the wheelhouse offers a swim-through, just big enough for a single diver, and the cargo holds are open, usually home to schooling cod that seem to just hang there, unbothered. The deck plating is collapsing in places, creating interesting nooks for crabs and small gobies, and we’d suggest taking your time exploring the bow, where the anchor chain still leads off into the sand. This isn't a brightly coloured reef dive, it’s about the wreck itself, the scale of it, and the life that has claimed it. Come for the history, stay for the silent swim-throughs and the chance to spot some chunky North Sea fish.
