DANKBARHEIT - North Sea Coast

Dankbarkeit, off the North Sea Coast, is a proper wreck dive, not just a pile of scattered metal. This isn't a deep dive, sitting at a shallow 13 metres, which means decent bottom time and often good light penetration. What we really love about Dankbarkeit is how much of the original ship is still discernible. You can pick out the bow, parts of the superstructure, and even the stern. It's truly a tangible piece of history. As you descend, the wreck slowly materialises from the green North Sea water, often draped in kelp and anemones. We’ve spotted some hefty cod sheltering in the deeper sections of the wreck, and schools of pollock weave through the exposed frames. Look closely amongst the rust and you’ll find crabs scuttling and blennies peeking from crevices. Visibility can be a bit of a gamble, but on a good day, when the current is mild and the sun is out, it’s a genuinely atmospheric dive. This site suits divers who appreciate exploring a coherent wreck and those who get a kick out of the unique ecosystem a sunken vessel creates. We'd suggest going at slack tide for the easiest conditions.
