DE TO VENNER - North Sea Coast

De To Venner is a wreck dive, but it feels more like a living reef, which is why we’re such fans. This old fishing trawler, sunk in 1971, lies just five metres down. It’s a shallow dive, yes, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's simple. The wreck itself is quite broken up, but its skeletal remains offer plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. We love swimming through the twisted metal, imagining the life it once held. It’s the marine life that really makes De To Venner a standout for us. Shoals of small pollock weave through the structure, and we’ve often seen impressive flatfish camouflaged on the sandy bottom nearby. Look closely, and you’ll spot crabs scuttling amongst the seaweed-draped timbers. Visibility here can vary; we’d suggest checking local conditions before heading out, as a calm day really enhances the experience. It’s a great site for new wreck divers, offering a gentle introduction to overhead environments without the depth. For photographers, the ambient light at five metres means some truly striking shots are possible, especially on a sunny afternoon.
