DORPET - North Sea Coast

Dorpet isn't for everyone. It's shallow, just 2m, and sometimes the North Sea's visibility can be a bit... atmospheric. But if you appreciate history and a real sense of discovery, this is a special one. This is a German Heinkel He 111 bomber, shot down in 1943, and the wreckage is still surprisingly intact for its age. We’ve finned over the wings, surprisingly large, and picked out remnants of the fuselage poking up from the sand. It's a stark reminder of wartime, and that quiet reverence is part of its charm. Because it's so shallow, light penetrates right to the seabed, even on an overcast day. You can really spend time exploring the debris field, seeing how the metal has buckled and twisted. The currents here can pick up, so we always check the tides, aiming for slack water to get the calmest conditions. Our favourite moments are finding the small crabs scuttling amongst the plates, and the occasional flatfish camouflaged against the sand, a little slice of life reclaiming a piece of history. This site is best suited for divers who appreciate a reflective, historical dive over a coral-filled spectacle.
