DUNGENESS - North Sea Coast

Okay, let's talk about the *Dungeness*. This isn't your Caribbean reef dive, obviously, but for those who love a proper wreck with a story, it’s a cracker off the Danish North Sea coast. We first dived her on a calm day, which is a gift in these parts, and she sits upright at around 30 meters. The *Dungeness* went down in '90, a fishing vessel, and she's taken on that wonderfully encrusted, lived-in look that only time and cold water can achieve. You’ll drop onto a structure that's completely draped in dead men’s fingers and anemones. We’ve spotted some decent cod lurking in the holds, and the bridge area is always worth a poke around for crabs and even the occasional small monkfish. There’s a certain atmosphere to a wreck like this – the cold water, the history, the sheer bulk of it appearing out of the green. Our tip: pick your weather window. Visibility can swing wildly here. We prefer a dive when there’s been a few days of settled conditions; it makes all the difference when you’re trying to navigate the deck. She's a good dive for experienced cold-water wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the beauty of a working vessel transformed by the sea.
