EDMUND HUGO STINNES 1V - North Sea Coast

Diving the Edmund Hugo Stinnes 1V, you really feel the history of the North Sea. This isn't some pristine, intact vessel; it’s a proper wartime casualty, torpedoed in 1940 by HMS Truant. At a shallow 13 metres, it’s a brilliant wreck for extended bottom times, letting you properly soak in the atmosphere. We love picking through the scattered debris, the heavy plates and twisted metal, imagining the chaos of its final moments. The Stinnes is broken, but that's its charm. It’s like an archaeological dig down there, with sections of hull and machinery creating a fantastic habitat for local critters. We’ve found wolf fish tucked into crevices, their grumpy faces peering out, and often see ling weaving through the wreckage. Our favourite part is searching for the brass fittings that still sometimes surface, little glints of a past life. Conditions can be typical North Sea – don't expect gin-clear water, but the ambient light at this depth usually means good visibility. It’s a site for divers who appreciate a wreck with a story, even if that story means a jumbled, broken resting place. Bring a good torch and take your time; the details reveal themselves slowly.
