FORTUNEN - North Sea Coast

Diving the Fortunen is a proper adventure, especially considering it’s just 10 metres down in the North Sea. We’re talking about a merchant vessel, sunk in December 1943, and she’s a dangerous wreck, which means you need to treat her with respect. What we love about Fortunen is how she’s completely given herself over to the sea. The ship’s ribs are a jumble, forming these fantastic little caves and overhangs, perfect for lobsters to peek out from. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery; a good day might give you 5-8 metres, letting you really appreciate the scale of the hull. You'll feel the cool, silty water around you as you navigate the wreckage. We’d suggest going at slack tide to avoid any strong currents pulling you around the sharp metal edges. This isn't a site for beginners; you need good buoyancy and situational awareness. It’s for those who appreciate history and the sheer resilience of marine life making a home out of human tragedy. Look closely, and you'll spot everything from cod to crabs, all thriving amongst the rusted steel.
