FRISIA - North Sea Coast

The Frisia is a shallow, fascinating wreck, a real treat for history buffs and macro fans. We’re talking about a steamship that ran aground way back in 1891, and it now sits in just two meters of water. This isn’t a deep blue adventure, it’s a wade-out-and-snorkel-or-freedive kind of dive, perfect for a sunny afternoon. What we love about the Frisia is how accessible it is. You can see bits of the hull poking out of the water at low tide, which is a neat visual before you even get wet. Once you’re in, the wreck pieces are spread across a sandy bottom, some timber, some iron, all wonderfully encrusted. Look closely, and you’ll spot tiny crabs scuttling, anemones waving, and the occasional flatfish camouflaged against the sand. It’s a photographer’s dream for wide-angle shots showing the wreck against the sky, or for getting down low and finding those intricate details. The Frisia suits snorkelers and freedivers looking for a unique, historical site without the need for heavy gear. We’d suggest going at slack tide for the best visibility, which can be variable depending on recent weather.
