GERTRUD - North Sea Coast

The Gertrud is a proper character of a wreck, a small cargo ship that went down in 1941. We love how shallow it is, sitting upright at just 11 metres, making it perfect for a long bottom time, even for those newer to wreck diving. You can really take your time exploring the deck, the holds are open and accessible, inviting a peek inside to see the beams of light filtering through. Our favourite part is the amount of life that’s made a home here. We've seen some truly huge crabs scuttling over the plating, and the anemones that have carpeted parts of the hull shimmer in the light. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we’d suggest aiming for slack tide and a calm day to get the best out of it. It’s not a big, dramatic wreck, but its accessibility and the way it’s been reclaimed by the North Sea make it a really satisfying dive. You'll finish feeling like you've spent quality time with a piece of history.
