GRETHE - North Sea Coast

The Grethe, a motor vessel lost in 1960, sits upright and largely intact on the seabed at a comfortable 15 meters. We love this wreck for its penetrable engine room, a real highlight, offering a glimpse into its past life. The wheelhouse is also still there, adding to the sense of discovery. You’ll find a surprising amount of soft coral growing on the hull, a colourful contrast to the ship’s dark steel. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is in the North Sea. We’ve had days where it’s a murky 5 meters, and others where it opens up to 15, letting sunlight stream through the superstructure. Our best dives have been on calm days after a period of settled weather. The resident cod are often curious, swimming close, and we’ve spotted plenty of crabs tucked into crevices. This wreck is perfect for those who enjoy a solid, explorable wreck without the pressures of extreme depth or current. It’s a proper dive, a rewarding one, especially if you catch it on a good day.
