HOLGER - North Sea Coast

Diving the *Holger* is a real trip back in time, a properly atmospheric North Sea wreck. Lying just 14 metres down, she’s wonderfully accessible, though don’t let the shallow depth fool you. We’d suggest a calm day, as the North Sea can be… lively. Even then, expect a bit of a tumble in the entry, but it’s worth the effort. The *Holger* is a ghost ship, a former dredge sunk in 1914, and she feels every bit her age. Visibility can be hit or miss, but even on a low-vis day, the sheer outline emerging from the green gloom is captivating. You can explore the hold, a vast space now home to ling and cod that peer out from the shadows. Barnacles coat every surface, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large crabs scuttling around the collapsed superstructure. Our favourite part? Finning past the old engine room, feeling the sheer scale of the machinery, now completely overtaken by the sea. It’s not a site for vibrant corals, obviously, but for those who appreciate history and the power of the ocean, the *Holger* is a standout. This one suits divers who enjoy a good story and don't mind a bit of a current.
