KARIJAS - North Sea Coast

KARIJAS sits in a peculiar spot, almost daring you to dive it. This isn't a deep plunge; the wreck of the old fishing vessel rests in just three metres of water. It sank back in '63, and honestly, the decades have been kind, in an ecological sense. We love diving KARIJAS on a calm day, when the light really penetrates and you can properly make out the shape of the hull. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, so pick your weather window carefully. We'd suggest aiming for a high tide with minimal wind to get the clearest view. What you’ll find is a structure that’s become a home. Ballan wrasse dart in and out of the rusted metal, and if you’re patient, flatfish like plaice often lie camouflaged on the sandy bottom nearby. The real joy is the easy access and the sense of history that hangs about the place. It’s perfect for those who want a relaxed dive, maybe to practice photography or just enjoy a very accessible wreck without the need for complex gear. You can spend a good hour exploring the remains, watching the resident crabs scuttle over the framework. It’s a quiet, reflective dive, nothing too dramatic, just a piece of the North Sea’s past slowly dissolving into its present.
