LAURA M66 - North Sea Coast

The LAURA M66 is, for us, one of the more evocative wrecks along the North Sea coast. Dropping down to 31 meters, you hit the bow first, often with a slight chill in the water. She was a fishing vessel, sunk back in ‘42, and you can still feel that history as you explore. We love how intact she is, especially the stern where the propeller stands proud, encrusted with dead man’s fingers. Visibility here can swing, but on a good day, you’ll see the entire outline, a dark shape against the grey-green water. Conger eels are common residents, poking their heads out from gaps in the hull, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large Atlantic cod patrolling the decks. For anyone keen on wreck penetration, there are a few points of access into the wheelhouse, but watch your buoyancy – it’s a tight squeeze. Our pick for a perfect dive is an early morning slack tide; fewer divers, and the light filtering down can be pretty special. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the story as much as the structure, a real piece of wartime history resting on the seabed.
