MERCURIUS - North Sea Coast

The Mercurius isn’t your typical North Sea wreck. We’re talking about a wreck so shallow, she practically breaches the surface at low tide – a mere 2m deep. It’s an unusual dive, more akin to an archaeological snorkel, but we love it for its sheer accessibility and the unique perspective it offers. You’ll find the remains of a motor vessel, scattered across a wide area, testament to the wild North Sea storms she couldn't withstand. We’d suggest going at slack tide for the best visibility, which, let's be honest, is always a factor up here. What you experience at Mercurius is less about vibrant coral and more about the raw power of the ocean claiming its own. You'll see twisted metal plates, parts of the engine block, and various other fragments, all heavily encrusted with mussels and barnacles. The light penetrates easily, illuminating the small crabs scuttling amongst the wreckage and the occasional flounder trying to blend in. It suits divers who appreciate history, photographers looking for an unusual subject, or even snorkelers keen to explore a piece of maritime heritage without needing a full setup. It’s a powerful reminder of the unforgiving nature of these waters.
