MIKKEL - North Sea Coast

The MIKKEL wreck, sitting at 31 metres off the North Sea Coast, isn't your typical colourful reef dive, and we love it for that. This old fishing vessel, now classified as dangerous by local authorities, has a somber, almost ghostly presence on the sandy seabed. It's a real adventure dive, best suited for those comfortable in colder, darker water and with good buoyancy control, given its potentially unstable nature. What you'll find here is a wreck that truly feels like a time capsule. You can still make out the outline of the stern, the collapsed wheelhouse, and the engine room. Our last dive saw a big conger eel peering out from under a twisted piece of plating – a classic wreck inhabitant. We’ve also spotted some impressively large cod lurking in the shadows, and the metalwork is starting to show some decent growth, with anemones clinging on and clusters of mussels covering sections of the hull. It’s a dive for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate history and the unique ecosystem a sunken ship creates.
