NO 301 (POSSIBLY) - North Sea Coast

The NO 301, a fishing vessel sunk in February 1945, is one of our favourites along the North Sea coast, precisely because it’s a proper wreck dive, not just a pile of rubble. It sits upright, mostly intact, giving you the real sense of a submerged ship. We love dropping down onto the deck at 21 metres, seeing the outline of the wheelhouse still there, even if time and the sea have stripped it bare. This isn’t a colourful reef dive, but the sense of history is palpable. Ling and cod often hover in the gloom around the mast, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large conger eels tucked into the deeper sections of the hull. Exploring the hold is a highlight, but bring a good torch – it gets dark in there, and the silt kicks up easily. Visibility can be a bit variable here, so we always check the forecast for calm seas and slack tides for the best chance of a clear run. It's a dive for those who appreciate history and the quiet drama of a steel structure reclaimed by the ocean, not necessarily for macro enthusiasts.
