NORDLAND - North Sea Coast

The Nordland, a wreck from WWII, is one of our favourite North Sea dives. She’s not massive, just 24 metres down, but what she lacks in depth, she makes up for in atmosphere. We love dropping down onto her deck, the dark water giving way to her silhouette. The visibility here can be tricky, sometimes just a few metres, but that only adds to the eerie feeling of exploring a ship that met its end as a target practice. Schools of cod and pollock weave through the twisted metal, often so thick you have to push through them. Look closely and you’ll spot crabs scuttling amongst the plates and an occasional anglerfish lurking in the shadows. We’d suggest diving this one on a calm day with minimal swell; the currents can pick up, making it a challenging dive for less experienced wreck divers. Bring a good torch and take your time; there’s plenty to see once your eyes adjust to the gloom.
