OTTENSEN OF ALTONA - North Sea Coast

Alright, Ottensen of Altona. Not your typical wreck dive, given it’s essentially at the surface, but that’s what makes it so distinct. This isn’t a deep exploration; it’s more of a living museum piece, accessible to anyone comfortable with a snorkel and fins. We love how the hull is broken, creating these little sheltered pockets where the current is calmer. You'll spend your time peering into crevices, watching small crabs scuttle and anemones sway. The stern, in particular, is a fascinating jumble of metal and rust, a magnet for juvenile fish seeking refuge. It’s a fantastic site for photographers keen on capturing textures and the interplay of light and shadow, especially on a sunny day. We’d suggest going at high tide to get the best visibility over the structure. While it's not a site for spotting big pelagics, the sheer number of small critters that have made a home in the wreck’s skeletal remains makes for an engaging, relaxed surface dive.
