P G HALVORSEN - North Sea Coast

The P G Halvorsen isn't your postcard-perfect tropical dive, but for wreck enthusiasts on the North Sea coast, it's a real standout. Sunk on Christmas Day, 1941, by a mine, this old steamship rests in just 13 metres of water. We love the accessible depth, it gives you plenty of bottom time to really soak it all in. You'll find the wreck largely intact, though time and current have definitely left their mark. There’s something eerie about finning over the skeletal remains of a vessel that met such a sudden end. Visibility can vary wildly here, so pick your day carefully. We'd suggest aiming for a calm period after a few days of settled weather. When it’s good, the light penetrates right down, illuminating the dark caverns and twisted metal. Conger eels are often seen peeking out from holes, and huge schools of cod and pollock swirl around the superstructure. It feels less like a shipwreck and more like an artificial reef, teeming with big fish. Our favourite part? Peering into the engine room, imagining the sudden impact that brought her down. It’s a site that tells a story, perfect for those who appreciate history as much as marine life.
