POLARNA - North Sea Coast

The Polarna sits on the seabed off the North Sea Coast, a surprisingly accessible wreck for those keen on Danish history. We’ve always appreciated a wreck with a story, and this one, a former motor vessel now classified as a dangerous wreck, certainly has it. Dropping down to 20 metres, the first thing you notice is the way the light filters through the green North Sea water, giving the whole site a slightly eerie, reverent feel. The wreck itself is broken but still offers plenty of structure to explore. We love finning along the bow, imagining its working life, now home to clouds of small fish darting in and out of the plating. It’s a great site for seeing how quickly marine life reclaims man-made objects; the metalwork is heavily encrusted, attracting various crabs and gobies. Visibility can be a bit of a lottery here, so we always suggest picking a day with settled weather. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the quiet history of the sea, who don't mind a bit of current, and who get a kick out of discovering a piece of the past.
