Skærebæk Rev - North Sea Coast

Knudshoved Rev, off Bornholm, often gets overlooked for deeper wrecks, but we think that’s a mistake. This shallow, sprawling reef is a real contender for our favourite Scandinavian shore dive. It’s not about huge pelagics here, it’s about the small stuff, the surprising textures, and the sheer abundance of life under those calm, often grey, Baltic surfaces. Drop in and you’re instantly amongst mussel beds, their dark shells a mosaic over the rocks. We always spend ages just watching the little common shore crabs scuttling between the nooks and crannies. Keep an eye out for solitary glassy-bubbles, tiny iridescent shells that catch the light in the dimness. It’s a slow dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who loves to just hover and observe. Visibility can be a bit hit-or-miss, averaging 5-10 metres on a good day, but when it’s clear, the light filtering through the water has a unique, almost painterly quality. We’d suggest a calm morning, just after sunrise, for the best chance of decent visibility and to avoid any boat traffic. It’s a fantastic site for newer divers looking for an easy entry, or experienced folks who appreciate the subtle beauty of a temperate reef.
