VESPER - North Sea Coast

The Vesper, a sailing vessel that went down in 1882 after colliding with the Billow of Grimsby, sits at a very manageable 18 metres. It’s our favourite kind of North Sea dive, where history and nature have truly merged. We love the eerie quiet down there, the way the light filters through the green water and catches the remains of the wooden hull. You can still discern the shape of the old girl, even after all these years. What’s left of the timbers are heavily encrusted, home to blennies peeking out from cracks and anemones swaying gently in the subtle surge. It’s not a huge wreck, so you can take your time, really absorb the atmosphere. We often find ourselves just hovering, watching the sand eels dart around the perimeter, or spotting the occasional small crab scuttling across a barnacle-covered plank. This site really suits divers who appreciate the subtler beauty of a historical wreck, not just big pelagics. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye for the small stuff. Best dived on a calm day, when the visibility is at its best.
