VESTERBY - North Sea Coast

Vesterby, sitting at a shallow 12 meters, is a proper North Sea history lesson. This steamship, sunk by a mine in 1919, isn't some scattered debris field. You’re looking at a largely intact vessel, lying on its side. We love how the bow and stern are still clearly defined, with a massive boiler dominating the midship section. It's an easy dive, perfect for extended bottom times to really explore the structure. The low light penetration here gives it a wonderfully atmospheric feel, even on a sunny day. We’ve found the best visibility tends to be early in the morning before the coastal currents kick up too much sediment. Keep an eye out for the resident crabs scuttling across the deck plates and the occasional cod peering out from a shadowed porthole. It's not a riot of colour, but the encrusting anemones and sponges add texture to the aged steel. This is our pick for divers who appreciate maritime history and the quiet beauty of a wreck slowly succumbing to the sea.
