REGGIO - Costa Brava

The Reggio, a roll-on roll-off ferry, sits at a very manageable 25 metres, making it one of our favourite wreck dives on the Costa Brava. We love that it’s big enough to feel like a proper wreck without being overwhelming. She went down in two stages, initially sinking partially in Barcelona harbour in '91, then refloated and scuttled here the following year. That history makes for an interesting structure to explore. From the moment you drop down, the sheer size of the Reggio is impressive. You’ll fin along her expansive deck, which is now home to schools of barracuda that swirl above the old vehicle ramps. We always feel a slight chill when we glide into the darker, open cargo hold, imagining the cars that once filled it, now replaced by congregations of conger eels peering from every crevice. Look closely, and you’ll spot nudibranchs grazing on the metalwork and octopuses tucked into shadowed corners. This wreck is perfect for divers who appreciate a relatively intact structure and want to spend a good chunk of bottom time exploring a fascinating piece of history turned artificial reef.
