DIXIE ROVER - Tobago

The Dixie Rover might be a shallow wreck, only five metres down, but don't let that fool you. This isn't just a quick dip; it's a proper exploration. This old tug, sunk way back in '85, is now a fantastic artificial reef, sitting upright and surprisingly intact on the sandy bottom just off Mount Irvine Bay. We love how accessible it is, perfect for multiple dives in a day, and the sheer volume of fish sheltering within its structure. Swim through the old wheelhouse, peer into the engine room, and glide over the deck that’s now completely encrusted with sponges and soft corals. You’ll find schools of snapper and grunts hanging out in the darker corners, while the resident barracuda often hover motionless, watching you with that characteristic cool stare. It’s a photographer’s dream, especially when the light is just right in the late morning, filtering through the superstructure and highlighting the vibrant colours. Our favourite part? Spotting the tiny blennies and gobies that have made homes in every crevice. If you’re into wrecks but prefer something without the depth challenge, the Dixie Rover is our top pick in Tobago.
