Extra Divers - Tobago

Extra Divers, or sometimes just referred to as the dive shop’s house reef, is a surprisingly engaging shore dive on Tobago. We often head here when the conditions offshore are a bit frisky or we fancy a relaxed afternoon. The entry is simple, a short walk from the shop, and you're straight onto a sandy bottom at about three metres. Keep your eyes peeled here for the little guys – we’ve spent ages watching Pearly Blennies darting in and out of the sand, and the Seaweed Blennies are always good for a laugh, just swaying with the actual seaweed. It’s a site that rewards slow diving. Forget covering ground; this is a macro photographer’s dream and a spot for really tuning into the small stuff. We love hunting for the tiny Key Worm Eels poking their heads out, and the Lizardfish are usually chilling on the sand, perfectly camouflaged. You’ll find patches of coral rubble, home to the Checkerboard Frillfin and various gobies. It’s not a deep dive, maxing out around 10-12 metres, which means plenty of bottom time and lots of light for spotting those elusive critters like the Scrawled Sole or a camouflaged Pacific Spotted Scorpionfish. This is absolutely our pick for a chill dive after a flight, or a relaxed last dive before heading home.
