HERMA A - Tobago

HERMA A is an interesting one. We’re talking about a shallow wreck, just three metres deep, right off the shore. Forget deep currents or long boat rides; this is an easy shore dive, a calm dip you can do on your own schedule. The wreck itself, a motor vessel that went down in rough seas back in '75, now lies broken up but still recognisable. You’ll weave around twisted metal and sections of the hull, observing the way the ocean has slowly reclaimed it. What we really love about Herma A is the sense of history mingled with the everyday reef life. Schools of juvenile snapper dart in and out of the crevices. Look closely and you'll spot tiny crabs scuttling over the rusting plates. It’s a fantastic spot for macro photography if you can get comfortable with the reduced visibility that can sometimes happen in the shallows near shore. Our best advice? Go on a calm morning, before the boat traffic picks up, and take your time exploring the nooks and crannies. It’s an easy, rewarding dive for anyone who appreciates the quiet beauty of a shallow wreck.
