MV TREASURE QUEEN II - Tobago

The MV Treasure Queen II is one of Tobago’s most unusual "wrecks", mostly because it’s not really a wreck at all. This old ferry ran aground in a storm and was never properly salvaged, ending up half-submerged just off the shore, making it more of an artificial reef right on the surface. We love it for a casual snorkel or a super shallow dive. You’re really just poking around the superstructure, which breaks the surface, offering a unique perspective both above and below the waterline. Schools of juvenile fish, often snapper and grunts, swirl around the crumpled metal and rusting decks, darting into the shade of the partially submerged cabins. It’s an easy, calm drift here, and the light plays beautifully through the water, illuminating the vibrant green algae and soft corals that have started to colonise the wreck. Our favourite time to visit is late afternoon, when the sun is lower and casts long shadows, making the whole scene feel a bit more dramatic. It’s perfect for new divers or snorkelers wanting a peek at a wreck without the depth.
