UNITED VENTURE - Tobago

The United Venture, what a wreck. It’s sitting in just two metres of water, barely submerged, making it less of a dive and more of a snorkel, but don’t let that put you off. We usually motor past this on the way to something deeper, but it’s always worth a pause. You can clearly see the schooner's ribs breaking the surface, a skeletal outline against the Caribbean blue. We love just floating above it, peering down. Schools of sergeant majors flicker through the gaps, darting between the rusty frames. Look closer, and you'll spot tiny gobies hunkering down in the crevices and brave little damselfish defending their patches of algae. It’s amazing how quickly life reclaims something man-made. The whole thing feels surprisingly active, especially on a sunny afternoon when the light really plays through the water. It’s perfect for a lazy drift, or for getting some practice with your underwater camera in very forgiving conditions. Great for families, or when you just want a relaxed swim with a bit of history thrown in.
