CHICKLADE - Scottish East Coast & Borders

We’ll be honest, the Chicklade isn't a deep dive, peaking at 8m. But what it lacks in depth, it makes up for in character. Sunk as a blockship, it’s now a skeletal, but substantial, playground of twisted metal and exposed ribs. The light filters through the gaps, creating these amazing shafts that illuminate shoals of coalfish darting in and out. It’s got a real eerie beauty to it, a ghost ship feeling. This wreck really suits divers who appreciate history and don’t need vibrant corals to get their fix. We love how much of the structure remains, enough to explore penetration points if you’re suitably qualified and careful. Keep an eye out for velvet swimming crabs scuttling across the plates; they're everywhere. Our favourite time to dive it is on a calm, sunny day when the visibility can really open up. Avoid anything remotely choppy, as it just stirs everything up. It’s a quiet, reflective dive, perfect for photographers looking for something a bit different.
